A position with our successful program in a correctional facility (young men 12-24) focusing on TRANSITION will not be funded in the next contract. They are doing nothing to foster success in transition. In the 13 years we've provided services everything we do is a combo of requests by youth and what works (brain science) Every young man who gets out informs this transition need...begs for it. Yet it's the vanity projects/positions that get funded... diversity, equity, and inclusion...and even that is not appropriately operationalized. It is heartbreaking. I have a young man in adult corrections desperately trying to get groups/workshops going there that he had when he was with us. The few staff who try are ground up and spit out same as the people we try to serve. We know what works, how to do it but as contractors are marginalized and hampered at every turn. Every success has come at great cost to my mental health, PTSD. I don't regret a minute spent in the work, but that it's invisible...buried in the hubris and arrogance of "optics" and simple cruelty of those who hold positions of authority.
