i recently had one of our young artists ask if there were restrictions to the art he wanted to create for an art show. this is art from the formerly incarcerated. this young man is one of two of our currently incarcerated youth able to participate through our Artists' Guild (convoluted process, but, hey, we elevate art). Their messages are raw, authentic, beautiful, and true. I told him "art is art" without boundaries (except, for us, hate speech). I told him to create art that is his...to speak his resistance, his truth. thank you for this piece. I'll be sharing it with them. x
